Chapter 7 culture

I started thinking about how powerful culture is and how the media has the potential to sway the way we completely view leadership. For some reason while I was reading about the President barbie doll I found myself more upset then content with their efforts. why did it take this long to have one female gendered toy represent a woman with leadership. For hundreds of years boys have had soldiers and GI Jo to represent leadership and heroism. Like we talked about in class traditionally girl toys have always been portrayed as house wives with all kinds of exciting appliances etc. I have to run but I will finish this thought later!

Yes, I was rather baffled by the effect that barbie had on society as a whole. The fact that it took a doll to acknowledge that their are women who would like to become leaders in office is crazy to me. I am not the typical female and yes I grew up in a household where I was bought barbie dolls and easy bake ovens, but I never played with the dolls. I gave them to my little sisters. As far as the easy bake oven go, I used to cook the food and when there wasn't any more food to cook that was the end of that. I just played with it to eat the food. I loved getting dirty and beating up on the boys. I enjoyed being outside and running around, but at the same time I didnt like bugs and I still dont. But I was one of the girls who wanted the tonker trucks and played with them. One of the girls who had the wrestling action figures, but the said part is I got criticized by many because I rather do what the guys did. I am not sorry because I would rather play sports then learn how to cook and clean. But anyways, I thought using Barbie was a great idea to get the publicity about women leaders, but I also thought that it could have been done differently.
